2017 marks James' 22nd year in construction. His primary focus has been architectural conservation and historic preservation. This focus has led to a diverse knowledge of interdisciplinary trades. James worked primarily in Charleston SC and Savannah Georgia prior to relocating to Austin Texas in 2010. 

James graduated from the College of Charleston with degrees in history.  It was this appreciation of history that led him to the conservation and preservation of historic structures. And this appreciation in historic architecture led him to spend time in Europe working and learning about design, and traditional building techniques and methods. 

James brought this focus to Austin and has worked on several Texas state and National landmarks. Several of James' projects have won preservation Austin awards. Most notably, The Dedrick-Hamilton House for the Austin African American Cultural Heritage facility and the pergola at Wooldridge Square Park. In addition to historic preservation, James Nolan Construction also works on a variety of construction projects including the renovation of personal residences, bars, and restaurants.

James has taken his experience and knowledge of historic preservation and construction and begun providing consultations for large and small-scale projects.
